Exploring the gaze, human psychology, architecture, memory, and the emotional territory of contemporary life through painting, mixed media, and photography.
“My art develops from observation — of people, relationships, society, nature, memory and the emotional circumstances that shape everyday life. The eye is one of the most important recurring symbols in my work — representing seeing and being seen, awareness, judgment, memory and the silent presence of society.”
Suruj Ahmed is a Bangladeshi contemporary visual artist whose practice moves across painting, mixed media, photography, drawing, printmaking, community art, and experimental visual expression. His work is shaped by an ongoing interest in human psychology, social relationships, women’s experiences, memory, observation, identity, nature, and the emotional conditions of contemporary life.
A recurring motif is the eye — repeated, enlarged or fragmented — functioning as a psychological metaphor for observation, consciousness, and social scrutiny. He has exhibited nationally and internationally across Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Japan, and Sri Lanka, and is the founder of UJAN Art Space in Shariatpur and an active organizer with the Shariatpur Photography Club.
